Children’s Ministry Coordinator
Job Description: Our Lady of the Black Hills is seeking a faith-filled and experienced Coordinator of Children’s Ministry to lead and oversee its programs including Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), OCIC, First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and traditional 4th-6th grade faith formation. In addition, this individual will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of faith formation PreK-6th grade, supporting and recruiting catechists for the spiritual formation of children in accordance with Catholic teaching.
Hours: up to 40 hours/week (32+ hours required to receive benefit package)

Responsibilities:
Coordinate Traditional Elementary Faith Formation for grades 4th-6th
- Recruit and train disciples to serve as catechists and as assistants
- Assess and provide curriculum and needed supplies to catechists, maintain classrooms
Coordinate Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) for grades PreK-6th
- Coordinate and implement CGS in accordance with national guidelines
- Recruit and train disciples as catechists and assistants
- Develop and maintain the atrium environment, maintain and prepare atrium materials
- Maintain yearly records of students presentations
Coordinate Sacramental Preparation for Children
- Parent meetings, retreats, sacramental events for children seeking to receive the sacraments
- Coordinate children in the Order of Christian Initiation of Children (OCIC) program
- Assess and provide curriculum and needed supplies to catechists, maintain classrooms
Coordinate Supplemental Programs for Children
- Summer Vacation Bible School and/or Duc in Altum for one week each summer
- Other opportunities for summer fellowship and faith formation as requested
- Coordinate and prepare a children’s concert each year.
- Catechist Support and Collaboration
- Works with OLBH Safe Environment Coordinator to ensure that all students and catechists receive the required training
- Recruit catechists and provide ongoing support, mentorship, appreciation, and training for catechists
- Communicate with catechists to assess the needs of the parish and ensure adequate resources are available
- Ongoing recruitment of CGS catechists to attend trainings
- Find and provide substitutes as needed
Position Expectations
- Complete Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Training Level I-3 and attend VSI Basic
- Create and manage program schedules, student enrollment, manage all parent communications, prepare and maintain a yearly budget
- Attend meetings as required including Pastoral Ministry Days, Staff, and Pastoral Council and Discipleship Commission; may be outside of regular working hours
- Collaborate with the faith formation staff; the ability to work collaboratively is a must
- Belong to or join the OLBH community as an active and practicing Catholic in good standing
- Event coordination, general office assistance and other duties as assigned
