What is Parish Feast Day?

All churches are dedicated to the worship of God and when Christians were first able to build churches they built them on holy sites. If there was not a holy site nearby a church would be dedicated in the name of a person or an event marked on the church calendar. We continue this tradition. In short, our church, Our Lady of the Black Hills, has a special feast day, Mary's birthday, the Nativity of Mary, September 8th. We celebrate the parish as close as we can to her birthday. The celebration of a parish feast is something special, full of prayer and fellowship. It is something all parishioners should participate in. Through the celebration we give thanks to God for our house of worship, his mercy, for the intercession of Mary, for our parish family and fellowship.
