Reconciliation

Do not be afraid to go to the Sacrament of Confession where you will meet Jesus who forgives you.

~Pope Francis

The Sacrament of reconciliation is offered at Our Lady of the Black Hills every Wednesday from 5:30-6:30 PM and on Saturday from 3:30-4:30 PM.

The confessional is located on the right side of the Church proper.

If you would like to make an appointment for Confession, call 605-787-5168.

How to Make a Good Confession

Before celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Penance, you should prepare with an examination of conscience (available on the back counter of the gathering space).

The Sacrament includes the following steps:

The priest greets you and together you will pray the Sign of the Cross.

The priest will invite you to trust in God.

Then you will confess your sins to the priest. The priest will help and counsel you.

The priest will give a penance to perform. Penance is an act of kindness or prayers to pray, or both.

The priest will then ask you to recite an Act of Contrition.

The priest will then bring down the Holy Spirit to give absolution. The priest says "I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." You will respond "Amen."

The priest will dismiss you and you will go forth to perform the act of penance he has given you.

Act of Contrition

O my God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.

In choosing to do wrong and in failing to do good I have sinned against you, whom I should love above all things.

I firmly intend, with the help of your grace, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin.

Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.

In his name, my God have mercy.

Amen.
