GENERATIONS OF FAITH WORKSHOP

The Diocese of Rapid City is hosting a Generations of Faith Workshop on June 2 & 3, 2004, at St. Martin's Monastery. Attending this workshop from Our Lady of the Black Hills parish are: Fr. Mark McCormick, Lori Miller, Betsy VanAsma, and Lori Ehresmann.

The Generations of Faith Project is a service of the Center for Ministry Development, funded through a four-year grant from the Lily Endowment. It is an innovative approach to parish faith formation that involves all generations in learning and growing together through their experience and participation in church life. The Project is focused on the educative power of the church community: the feasts and seasons of the Church Year, sacraments and liturgy, prayer and spirituality, justice and service, proclamation of the Word, and community life.

The Six Key Features:

  1. Faith Formation is event-centered - the lifelong curriculum and individual learning experiences are developed around the events of our shared life as Church: the Church Year, sacraments and liturgy, prayer and spirituality, justice and service, community life, and proclamation of the Word.
  2. Faith Formation is cyclic, episodic, continuous and lifelong. It is formed around the natural rhythm and pattern of the faith community's life as experienced throughout the year.
  3. Faith Formation is emergent - the beliefs and practices for living as a Catholic today emerge from the life, events, and practices of the faith community.
  4. Faith Formation is a cyclic process of learning: prepare all ages and all generations for meaningful participation in church events, engage all ages and generations in the events, and assist people to reflect on the significance and meaning of the event and apply the learning to their lives as Catholics.
  5. Faith Formation provides alignment of learning through common events and themes that are experienced and explored by all ages and all generations in the faith community.
  6. Faith Formation integrates home and parish into a comprehensive model of faith formation. Empowering and equipping individuals and families to live their faith at home and in the world are constitutive of this approach to faith formation.

These young people and their chaperones will be divided into three parish teams. Each team will attend a different track.

These young people will pay 50% of the $235 registration fee. The church agreed to help raise the balance of their fee and the entire registration fee for each adult chaperone in return for a 2-year commitment to help build the Youth Ministry program at OLBH. They have been busy picking rock, tearing off shingles, selling mugs, and taking the lead for the Basket Auction and Meal.

All of the students in Grades 8-11 received a letter in March inviting them to attend the camp. Each year more students have expressed interest in attending the camp. In 2002 we had four young people and one adult attend, in 2003 we took eight young people and three adults, and now in 2004 we have 11 young people and four adults attending.

OLBH MUGS FOR SALE

Thanks to the talent and generosity of Stephen and Beth Ann Ferley the young people have some beautiful Our Lady of the Black Hills mugs to offer the parishioners. Both the clear glass and the white ceramic mugs have the "Our Lady of the Black Hills" logo and the newly adapted mission statement. The clear glass mugs are on sale for $10 each and the white ceramic are $12 each. A sample of each design is displayed in the Narthex along with the order blanks. No payment is necessary until the mugs are delivered.

The mugs are a great gift idea for former parishioners, remembrance of special occasions, or a thank you.

The money will be used to help defray the costs of camps for the young people and their adult chaperones.
