CHECKLIST FOR SACRISTANS
- Turn on lights and fans:
- Narthex
- Top of basement stairs
- Sacristy
- Sanctuary (NOTE: Set spotlight for Crucifix
at full intensity, set remaining lights at reduced intensity
until 15 minutes prior to start of Mass).
- Set out Sacred Vessels in Sacristy:
- Large gold Ciborium-Paten (located in bottom of cabinet)
- Medium gold Paten (located in bottom of cabinet)
- Large gold Ciborium with lid (located in bottom of cabinet).
NOTE: This vessel is only used in conjunction
with Substantial Bread. If thin wafer hosts are used, then put
out the small Ciborium (looks like a Chalice with lid).
- Flagon
- Cruet – Half full with water
- Water glass for Fr. Mark – Fill with water
- Water bowl and pitcher – Fill pitcher with warm water
- 4 gold Chalices (NOTE: ensure one of
Chalices is Fr. Mark’s)
- 1 white terry hand towel
- 4 white linen Purificators
- Key for Tabernacle
- Set out Lectionary & 3-ring binder(s):
- Set ribbon in Lectionary to proper Mass setting. Check with
Fr. Mark if unsure.
- Insert prayers of faithful and announcements into 2
binder(s). Season determines color of binder.
- Set out wireless microphone and test battery. Turn on the
wireless microphone transmitter power switch, but leave the
microphone switch off. This will ensure a carrier signal is
present when you power up the sound system.
- Place vessels and Sacramentary on Credence Table and
prepare Sanctuary:
- Place all vessels, except for large gold Ciborium-Paten and
Flagon, on Credence Table using arrangement indicated below
(NOTE: Check linens on Credence Table. Replace
if soiled).
- Set ribbon marker in Sacramentary to proper liturgical
date.
- Set out additional chair next to Presidential Chair, if
required (Deacon/Concelebrant).
- Place glass of water next to Presidential Chair.
- Check that basket for children’s offerings is next
Presidential Chair.
- Place key in Tabernacle. Check amount of Consecrated Hosts
located within Ciborium in Tabernacle.
- Check Sanctuary Candle next to Tabernacle. Replace if
necessary.
- Check altar cloths. Ensure a Corporal is in place on the
credence table. Replace if soiled.
- Check candles on each side of altar. Replace if
necessary.
- Turn on wireless microphone switch on wall and power up
sound system. Use settings shown in figure 1.
- Complete preparation in Sacristy:
- Using measuring cup, measure appropriate amount of wine and
then transfer to Flagon.
- Count out appropriate portions of Substantial Bread and
place in large Ciborium-Paten. Place unbroken substantial bread
on top with cross imprint facing up.
- Check for sufficient Holy Water in Baptismal Font.
NOTE: The Holy Water Font is to be cleaned prior to
each Saturday evening Mass, using vinegar if necessary to remove
mineral deposits. Prior to cleaning, Dispose of any remaining
water in font by watering plants in the narthex.
- Check Candle Lighter and Extinguisher to ensure sufficient wick is
present.
- Ensure Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers, Lector, and Ushers
have checked in 15 minutes prior to Mass start time. It may be
necessary to be prepared to solicit volunteers to fill in for “no
shows”.
- Turn up all lights to maximum brightness 15 minutes prior to Mass
start time.
- Ushers are tasked with soliciting individuals or families to bring
up gifts.
- Ensure Altar Servers light candles at altar 5 minutes prior to
Mass start time.
- When confident of amount of wine poured and number of hosts
counted out, place Flagon and large gold Ciborium-Paten on Table for
the Gifts.
- After Mass, relocate and purify Sacred Vessels used during Mass:
- Ensure Eucharistic Ministers consume any remaining Precious
Body or Precious Blood at the Credence Table immediately after
Mass.
- Return Lectionary to Sacristy.
- After last Mass on Sunday, vessels should be washed in mild
detergent after purification.
- Check amount of Holy Water in reservoir. If necessary,
replenish and ask Fr. Mark to Bless. Do Not replenish if a
priest is not available to Bless.
- Turn off sound system, fans, and lights.
- Check security of building, both in basement and on main level.
